FORTY TWO is a Newport 41s, designed by Cuthbertson and Cassian of C&C yachts fame, and built in California by Capital Yachts. Practical Sailor Magazine did a reveiw of the Newport 41 in December 2003. You can see a copy of this here.
This particular yacht is hull number 99,
and was constructed in 1979. She spent 18 years on Lake of the
Ozarks, MO and was brought to Milwaukee, WI by her second owners.
Now owned by Brian Dodds, she is sailed out of North Point Marina,
Winthrop Harbor, IL, which is right on the Illionois/Wisconsin
border.
For those who are curious as to why a 41ft
yacht is called Forty Two, it has nothing to do with length,
but everything to do with Douglas Adams and The Hitchhikers
Guide to the Galaxy. A classsic science fiction
satire, this was first broadcast as a BBC Radio program in 1978,
and then published as a book in 1979. Forty Two is the answer
to the ultimate question of life, the universe and everything.
